The Significance Of Good Running Form!

Ever look at some of your race finish photos and say to yourself, "wow I look like a  mailbag thrown off the back of a truck when I run! what the heck happened?".  Then you see runners with seemingly perfect form and you wish you could run like them...

Paul Tergat and Haile Gebrselassie in the 2000 Sydney Olympics 10K.  Two of the fastest and most efficient runners in the world.  Our thanks to Andres for this YouTube video accompanied by Vivaldi's The Four Seasons/Winter/Largo.  This is poetry in motion.

Mountains to Sea Trail: Shut in Trail to Sleepy Gap

For an easy day or recovery day, we like to do what we call a wog (walk/jog).  This is the time we take to get outside, move the legs to get the blood flowing to all the muscles to help in the aide of recovery after a strenuous workout the day before.  It's also a time to really take a look around ourselves, enjoy the scenery and have a  picnic.

Tuscany Bread! A Quick and Easy Post Run Meal

I was given this recipe years ago.  It's pretty much a staple in our diet because it's so quick and easy to put together.  It's our go to recipe for after a long run when we want something substantial in our bellies and really need something in a hurry!  Hope you enjoy it also!

Biltmore Estate: Farm Trail/Arbor Trace Trail Run

This was our very first visit to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate
We can't talk about living and running in Asheville without talking about the Biltmore Estate.  The Biltmore House was built between 1889 and 1895 by George Washington Vanderbilt II. It is a Chateauesque-styled mansion and is the largest privately-owned home in the United States at 135,000 square feet featuring 250 rooms and is still owned by one of Vanderbilt's descendants.  Biltmore Estate is a National Historic Landmark with America's largest home, gardens, winery, hiking/biking and equestrian trails. The estate today covers approximately over 8,000 acres. George Vanderbilt created Biltmore as an escape from everyday life for family and friends.

Biltmore Estate: Lagoon Trail/Deer Park Trail Run

Statue of Diana, protector of wild animals.
Another trail we love at the Biltmore Estate is the Lagoon Trail/Deer Park Trail.  We include a run past the Bass Pond though the Gardens to the South Terrace of the Biltmore House to make this into a 6.5 mile run.  Include this with the Farm Trail/Arbor Trace Trail for a nice long run for the day!

Racing a Course Effectively: USATF Shortest Possible Route!

The topic came up this morning during a group run about running the shortest possible route during a race. I was surprised that not everyone was familiar with the advantage of running this way and how it is used by elite runners because this is how the USATF (USA Track and Field) requires courses to be measured to certify them.

Sometimes we wonder how often in the course of a runners career do they find a shoe that has their feet smiling...

Scenic shots of Historic Downtown Charleston, SC.

One of the things we love about running is it can take you to places you might not otherwise visit. Thanks to the Cooper River Bridge Run and our brother-in-law Johnny suggesting we make it a family event, we have been introduced to Charleston, SC.
